Peter Gabriel – Here Comes The Flood – 1990 version (90s – 76)

July 30, 2013

This is the song for just sitting there, lacking energy, looking out at nothing, looking inwards at melancholy.

This version comes from Peter Gabriel’s Shaking the Tree compilation released in 1990. The song was re-recorded for this collection. This album is my touchstone for Gabriel, as So besides, I don’t think I’ve heard a complete Gabriel album from the period this compilation covers. As So is mostly contained within, even that isn’t saying anything. Later albums have their moments – I thought about adding Digging In The Dirt to this list – but nothing after 1990 matches the reverence of Mercy St, the energy of I Don’t Remember, the ubiquity of Sledgehammer or the stark emotion of Here Comes the Flood.
