cLOUDDEAD – Two Dogs Dead (66)

December 15, 2009

If hip hop used to be the sound of urban decay, cLOUDEAD is the sound of detached desolation. Who else uses rap to imagine what it would be like to be hit by a car.

When it was released I wrote, “In an age when a sheen of glitz and glamour has eaten Hip-Hop’s soul, it’s great to hear coarse grit still has a place in the world.” And to think I wrote this before Kayne West and Lupe Fiasco ruled the world. Now, in a time where rappers have started using vocal correction as an instruments (bleah), it’s nice to remember a time when they used technolocy to make a gloriously dirty noise instead.
