X-Press 2 feat. David Byrne – Lazy (87)

December 8, 2009

The Noughties saw House return to the summit of pop for the first time since the late Eighties. To my ears, it took a decade of underground experimentation; the same experimentation running dry post ’97; and the dance scene(s) to reach a population of commercial opportunity for house to return to the mainstream.

Of course having David Byrne on vocals helps. For me it gave Lazy’s pulse a cheeky swagger and a ton of cool. No one sings like David Byrne; he always sounds enthusiastically awkward. Lazy was wonderfully refreshing after hearing too many divas on dance tracks.
