Darren Hanlon – Elbows (90)

December 8, 2009

Darren Hanlon revels in the unheralded, unfashionable and mundane. I can imaging him in the tour van, idle thoughts leading to songs about bike stands or hair dressers. However he stops short of kitsch or novelty; each object of his obsession treated with respect, and sometimes with a gentle melancholy. On stage he’s irreverent and humble, and as such he’s one of my favourite live acts. I even managed to interview him in my previous life in radio.

I could choose many of his songs, but this is one of his most joyous.
