Electrelane – Long Dark (93)

December 6, 2009

It can be argued Electrelane got less interesting as their career progressed, as they tinkered with art songs and Improv (though their albums were always enjoyable). But in the beginning, their muse flew free. I bought their 2001 debut “Rock It To The Moon” based on a review in the Wire and a love of vintage synths.

Long Dark is a perfect example of the album’s keyboard-charged juggernaut freewheeling with a full head of steam, though it should really be heard in conjunction with the preceding The Invisible Dog to get the full blast.

Sadly the two tracks are inseparable in all but YouTube, but this live version should give you the idea.
